Name: Julius Quintus
Age: 261
Designation: Scout-Sergeant, 1st Scout Squad, 10th Company. Attached to 4th Company.
Height: 7' 0"
Hair Colour: Bald
Physical Description: Julius is a solidly build bull of a man. He is not overly tall for an Astartes but even out of his armour he is as broad across the shoulders as most of his battle brothers in their full combat gear. His face is lined from many years of warfare and split by a jagged scar that runs from just above the 3 long service studs set into his forehead, down across the empty socket of his left eye to his jaw line. Julius took the wound in single combat with and Ork Warboss when he was still a battle-brother of the 2nd company. He has always refused any form of bionic or prosthetic replacement for the eye, Instead he has had an adamantium patch fixed over the socket. The patch is inscribed minutely with the chapters oath of obedience and is riveted directly into Julius’s skull.
His head and beard clean shaven to avoid interfering with the neck seal of his helmet in an emergency.
Personality: Julius is a stern severe man, not given to open shows of humour or any other 'frivolous' emotions. Anything superfluous to his role as a warrior and a trainer of warriors has long ago been stripped away leaving only the hard core of skill and discipline that will keep him and his brothers alive on the battlefield.
Julius works hard to keep this fine hard edge to his skills and to pass on those same qualities to the neophytes he is charged with raising up from aspirants into full battle-brothers.

History:
Julius was born on Feral world Mordak III on 892.946.M40, the son of a tribal chieftain on the northern steps. The planet had been used as a recruitment ground by the Omega Marines since their founding because of strength and hardiness of the tribespeople. The chapter set up a series of ‘Choosing Grounds’, one on each continent, and maintains a small fortress outpost on Mordak IIIs moon. When new aspirants are required the fortress fires its macro cannons into the upper atmosphere directly over one of the Choosing Grounds creating ‘fires in the sky’. Exactly one month after this signal, the marines of the fortress descend to the planet and conduct trials to choose a handful of suitable aspirants from the hundreds of young men who flock to the Choosing Ground.
Julius was 14 when the sky fires burned over the Choosing Ground too the east of his tribes territory. He and three others from his tribe set out across the frozen steppes on the three hundred mile journey to the trials. The trek was long and arduous and claimed the lives of two of his companions before they ever reached the Choosing Grounds.
The trials were difficult and many aspirants died, or were injured to badly to continue. Others withdrew when the challenges became too severe and had to endure the long journey back to their tribes in defeat. Julius excelled. He was stronger than any of his opponents in battle, faster in athletics and clever in games of skill and wit. At the end of the trial he was on of seven chosen out of five hundred and sixty three. He was taken to the fortress moon and from there to the flagship of the Omega Marines home fleet. There he was re-made into an Astartes.
Julius served for 6 years in the 10th company before his courage and discipline earned him a place as a battle-brother of the 3rd company. He was placed in the 6th squad and quickly establishing himself as an expert marksmen, equal to any in the company. Julius served in the 3rd company for 90 years before being seriously injured in single combat with an ork warboss in the campaign to clense the asteroid belt of the Gideon system. Whilst he recovered from his wounds, which included the loss of his left eye, Julius was assigned to the chapters main firing range where his main duty was to train the chapters newest aspirants in the use and maintenance of their newly issued bolt guns.
Julius showed a previously unknown talent for leadership and teaching and once his wounds were fully recovered he was assigned to the chapters 10th company, first as a weapons instructor and then as a sergeant of scouts. He is well known and respected throughout the chapter both for his own victories and as the mentor of many of the chapter’s best warriors.
The most recent campaign of the Omega Marines was in the Armageddon system where they played a major part in the 3rd war for Armageddon, committing 9 full companies to the warzone. The 10th company was deployed en masse into the jungles of Armageddon Primes southern continent as part of the chapters intelligence gathering network. Together with a regiment of imperial guard jungle warfare specialists, the Catachan V. They spent almost the entire war operating deep behind enemy lines gathering intelligence for the imperial high command. Julius’s squad was the only unit taking part in the operation to suffer zero casualties. At the close of the campaign the most senior surviving officer or the Catachan V, Lt Sturm, presented Julius with one of the signature hunting knives of the Catachan regiments as a gesture of respect for his skills.
The Omega Marines have spent the past several years rebuilding their strength after the extremely heavy losses suffered during the Armageddon campaign. Now they have raised their strength back to operational levels and the 4th company aboard the Strike Cruiser, Deliverance are embarking on a new campaign. Julius and a group of newly raised scouts has been attached to the 4th company so that it may soon be raised too full strength.
Sample Roleplay:
Julius’s armoured boot crashed into the flimsy door of the heretics ‘hidden’ staging post, smashing it from its hinges.
In a flash he was through the door and moving to the right to clear the way for the rest of his squad.
His bolter tracked the closest hostile as he leapt up from a table scattering a half finished card game and clawing for his sidearm.
Julius squeezed the trigger and a burst of high explosive bolts blew the separatist off his feet. His decades of training and experiance were in control now, making descisions for him faster than conscious thought.
The bolt gun panned right across the other card players and shot them down in a hail of precision gunfire as the rest of the squad piled into the room weapons blasting.
One man got to his weapon and a wild burst of autopistol fire clipped Julius’s shoulder guard sending chips of ceramite flying. The rounds didn’t penetrate but the impact staggered Julius just as a separatist armed with a 4 foot long engineers wrench came at him, swinging wildly.
Julius raised his bolter to block a blow that would have caved in even his reinforced skull and chips of plastek furniture flew from the impact as the barrel of the weapon deformed around the improvised weapon.
Julius reacted on instinct bringing the damaged weapon up sharply into the assailant’s face breaking his nose and making him reel back in shock. Julius quickly followed up with a boot to the midsection that doubled the man over and then brought the ruined gun down with all his superhuman strength on the back of the unfortunate mans neck. There was a nasty crunch and the heretic collapsed to the ground with his head twisted at an awkward angle. Julius discarded his now useless bolter and charged across the room, drawing his chainsword and thumbing the activation stud as he went.
The sword hummed in his hand as he swung it in a precise, clinical arc that decapitated the first heretic too come within reach. Julius twisted to the left, deflected the wild swing of a table leg armed heretic with the flat of the blade and drove the weapon into the mans chest before dragging it downwards, carving through his stomach and out his groin in a spray of gore.
‘Clear?’
The query rang out across the room as the rest of the squad finished the sweep
Julius nodded his head.
‘Clear’ he agreed and then activated his comm-link ‘Squad Quintus to Sanctified. Stronghold secure’
