History:
Leotas comes from a Feudal world, a world of farmers and small time production. Since the beginning he knew something about him was special. He was faster than the other boys. Stronger. He won every childhood game he played. His renown grew, and eventually he was invited to participate in the games. The games were a series of competitions that culminated in a test of survival. Those that survived were judged by a veteran of the Omega Marines. If viewed to be worthy, after passing the trials and tests, the best were taken from their families to become Astartes. Leotas was one of the best.
After his acceptance into the chapter, and his train for the most part complete, Leotas became part of a scout squad. Where he excelled against the other boys, he only matched the other initiates. This frustrated him to no end, and led him to strive for near perfection. When he wasn’t sleeping or praying, he would train. Train his mind, train his body, even trained his soul.
As a part of the scout squad, Leotas provided support and backup to the true battle-brothers, flanking the enemy and striking where he was least expected. Notable actions included the defense of Avaris Prime, against marauding elder, where Leotas himself accounted for nine of the foul Xenos.
In an incursion against the Orks, in the jungles of Felkera, the squad Leotas was a part of participated in a decisive action drawing a large horde of rampaging Orks into a clearing where they were decimated by the combined fire of two tactical squads, effectively drawing out the Ork Boss himself into a skirmish which resulted in the loss of his head.
Leotas also was involved in the pacification of Cerabe IV, a planet overrun by rebels and dissidents. He was part of the pre-invasion strike teams placed to spread discord and scout the enemy positions. It was in this action that the sergeant of the squad he was assigned had Leotas take a key dissident out at long range, which set the enemy forces into disarray.
Sample RP:
Looking through the scope, Leotas could see the shouting face of the rebel commissar hovering in his crosshairs. At his elevation, a slight wind was ruffling his hair, and he adjusted his aim to account for drift. A slight haze was visible even through the magnification of the lens, the distance was so great. But to get closer was to risk discovery, and they could not afford to let the rebels know they were in the vicinity. He steadied his aim, and gave a slight nod.
Next to him, the sergeant glanced at him and placed his own scope, removed from his rifle, to his eye. He studied the arrayed crowd, and the commissar shouting in the center. To strike here would not guarantee victory. But it would produce a small hiccup in the rebel’s response to the upcoming attack, making their brothers job easier. The drop would occur in just under three minutes. The scouts had been placed with certain objectives in mind. His squad’s was to decapitate the leadership in the sector. He keyed his mike, signaling the go ahead.
Leotas’s receiver chirped. For a moment, time slowed as adrenaline spiked. His finger feathered the trigger, his mind making lightning fast last minute calculations. Distance. Manageable. Wind, accounted for. Visibility, acceptable. He stopped thinking. His body took over, doing what it was trained to do. There was no doubt, no question of the hit. He was meant for this. He was to be Astartes. Crosshairs flicked a meter to the right of the commissar’s head, and the rifle cracked.
Leotas returned the crosshairs to the commissar’s head, and watched. A moment later, the bullet impacted, square between the eyes of the shouting man, stopping him mid-cry. There was a splatter as the bullet exited the back of the skull, and the body crumpled to the ground.
The sergeant’s lip curled in a half smile, then tapped his ward on the shoulder. They had to move, relocate. They would be looking for where the shot came from, and the high ground would be the first place to look.
The two figures collected their guns and slipped downstairs, rejoining the other three scouts in the room below. The sergeant nodded to the others, and they made their way out of the building to group with their landing brethren.
