Grenades:
Frag Grenade
The frag grenade is a shock weapon, mainly used to suppressed an enemy prior to close assault. The grenade consists of a core of high explosive wrapped in a tight coil of notched steel wire and sealed in a water tight casing of plasteel or high tensile plastic. The device is triggered by a variable fuse detonator which can be set to between 3 and 10 second delay. Astartes frag grenades have a lethal blast radius of about 30' in open ground.
Krak Grenade
Krak grenades are light anti-armour weapons. They can be thrown or attached to targets will adhesive or a mag-plate and use a shaped charge to destroy the target. They are frequently used disable armoured vehicles and force entry to fortified positions. While not as powerful as melta bombs, krak grenades have the advantage of being small allowing them to be carried in large numbers and thrown from cover if necessary.
Smoke Grenade
Smoke grenades are simple cannisters about equivalent in size to a standard frag grenade. They contain a powder which undergoes a chemical reaction when it comes into contact with oxygen. The powder converts into a gaseous form creating a cloud of dense obscuring smoke which can be used to mark a units position or conceal troop movements from observation. The chemical can be mixed with a variety of dyes to produce different colours of smoke. Standard available colours are White, Black, Red, Green and Blue but many other colours are also possible.
Blind Grenade
Blind grenades are advanced smoke grenades used to conceal troop movements from the enemy. Each one contains a chemical compound that gives off a dense white smoke on contact with air. Mixed in with this compound are thousands of thin flakes of polymer coated in an radar absorbing compound which heats up rapidly in contact with air. These flakes are carried within the smoke cloud masking IR and RADAR signitures as well as visibility.
Melta Bombs
The Melta Bomb is a heavy demolitions device which uses the same principles as the melta gun to destroy heavily armoured targets. The device takes the form of a heavy casing with its own imbuilt mag-clamp and adhesive base. Inside the casing are two high prerssure gas cannisters containing the pyrum-petrol gases. When the devices detonator fires (either by timer, impact or radio signal) the two gases are forced together under pressure creating a localised but highly intense sub-atomic reaction.
Melta bombs can be thrown short distances but they are to large and bulky to use like a grenade. Instead, they must be placed with precision for the best effect.
The melta bomb is to large and bulky to fit a standard grenade dispenser of bandolier and must be carried externally on slings or equipment webbing.
Equipment:
Auspex Scanner
The Astartes Auspex is a rugged hand held scanner, designed for easy use by fully armoured Space Marines in the field. The controls are large and simple to operate and the housing is armoured against impact. The device contains a battery of sensors which allow it to sense atmospheric conditions, function as a precise navigational aid and detect lifesigns and energy emmisions such as radio beacons or radiation sources within a range 500m. This range can be seriously attenuated by intervening terrain, especially if it is made dense materials such as rockcrete or plasteel.
Another downside is that the device can only detect lifesigns that it has been precalibrated to search for any other signals will be filtered out as background noise.
M.40 Scope
The M.40 is a sensative multi-role optical system designed to mount onto Astartes Sniper Rifles and Bolt Guns. The scope is self calibrating with a built in laser range finder and is accurate out to 1000m. an expert marksman can overide the self calibration and adjust the scope manually increasing its effective range to up to 1500m but this takes time and requires considerable expertise and experiance. The M.40 has a 12x magnifacation and built in image enhancement and thermal vision modes. The scope also has flare compensation and a variety of colour filters allowing the user to 'wash out' certain colours to clarify the image.
Grenade Launcher
The Grenade Launcher is a simple, single shot firearm which mounts under the barrel of the standard Bolt Gun. It launches a 40mm shell from the same style of piezo-electrically fired cartridge as is used by standard bolter rounds.
Each round is loaded individually and due to their size the weapon can only take a single shell before needing to be reloaded. The Launcher accepts both frag and krak varients of the shell which function in a identical manner to the hand grenades carried by all marines. The grenade launcher links into the bolters standard trigger system and functions as an additional fire mode removing the need for a seperate trigger. It has an effective range of 100m but is inaccurate at any range over 50m.
Frag Grenade
The frag grenade is a shock weapon, mainly used to suppressed an enemy prior to close assault. The grenade consists of a core of high explosive wrapped in a tight coil of notched steel wire and sealed in a water tight casing of plasteel or high tensile plastic.
