"Morning Prayers" – Firing range – strike cruiser Deliverance
Manius Agrippa waited patiently in the firing line until the target flipped up – An Ork armed with a brutal looking belt feed solid slugger at the 100 meter mark.
Fluidly raising his bolter to his shoulder Sgt Agrippa fired a tightly aimed 3 round burst that hit Chest Neck and Head of said Ork. The weapon bucked wildly and Manius expertly reacquired the Target but it was gone already – to be replaced by 2 more ‘Orks’ at the 75 Meter mark. Flipping the selector to single shot Manius rapidly put several devastatingly accurate rounds into the heads of each. Another appeared at the 150 mark and Manius Nonchalantly dispatched it with a rapid triple tap to the chest.
He had not gone to the chapel as usual for Morning observance but instead had sprung a suprise inspection at 0120 hours ship time on his squad - and had been secretly pleased with the results - however several minor issues did require a penance and he had instigated punishments to be suffered by the whole squad.
Todays penance had been 3 lengths of the ship in full combat gear. Not as easy as it sounds as Agrippa had varied their course to include several depressurised areas of the ship which he had ensured that were devoid of power. So those parts of the ship were without illumination and had to be traversed using suit and weapon illuminators.
2 More Orks appeared this time much closer – 25 meters and Manius quickly switching to full auto emptied the drum magazine into them exploding their upper torso’s and heads as he did so in one long stuttering burst.
+++TARGETS COMPLETE 94% AVERAGE KILL PROBABILITY+++
Voiced the range Servitor to the sounds of appreciation from the rest of 1st Tactical Squad who stood witness to their Sgts Skill at arms from the raised viewing bay.
Manius however was aggrieved – he usually managed the 98 – 99 % averages – which was expected of a three time winner of a 'Marksmans Honor badge'. He put it down to the responsibility of running a Tactical Squad taking up more of his time than he had expected.
Ejecting the Spent Drum Magazine – he turned to his squad as his Bolter cooled, smoke rising from Barrel and open breech.
“Brother’s I want the rest of One Charlie to get into pairings and go through the Armageddon Alpha 10 program on the short range”
He Turned to Brother Crosius who as the Squads assigned heavy weapon Specialist was hefting a 1.00 caliber belt fed Heavy Bolter and the other four Marines of One Delta – 1st Squads Second Fire team.
“One Delta, proceed to the 'Long' range and go through the Armageddon Delta 3 Program”
All 9 Brother Marines responded as one
+++YES BROTHER SERGENT+++
He inserted a fresh Drum and made the weapon ready to fire again.
“Each go through two complete ammo loads, do a complete weapon strip down and then swap ranges and do two more ammo loads – too your duty Brothers”
The 9 Marines saluted warrior style – right gauntleted fists slamming into 9 armored chests.
Watching them enter the firing bays of the two ranges for a moment Tactical-Sgt Agrippa turned on his heal and marched from the Firing range making his way to the briefing room.
