Hello guys. I know I am the newest to the squad and all, but I was wondering if it was alright if I played the role of the Marine that carries the flamer? I mean they would come in handy on a CQC missions or clearing at and bunkers and what not. I believe that every squad should take one. This is just my opinion but Id like to hear what you all have to say. Especially my Sargent. I would take a bolt pistol as a secondary so that I would have a weapon for mid range as well as clearing targets.
or
Am I making a mountain at of a mole hill and the load out will be done before every mission?

I'm afraid you came to the party a little late. Squad loadout was done before we dropped. I believe that Achilles is the tactical squads weapons specialist atm. Don't worry though, we're picking up new players all the time so after this mission we're planning a reshuffle of the roster. We'll promote someone who has participated IC and OOC to a particularly high standard to sergeant and form a devastator unit. and we might promote a couple of scouts if they're ready. Then we'll need to reorganise the tactical squad to cover the holes.
For now you'll have to make do with a bolter as an ordinary battle brother. check the company roster to see exactly what everyone in your squad does.

If you look at the rooster you'll see that the tactical squad already has a weapon specialist, brother Achilles, who carries a plasma for the moment. I don't know if Agrippa intend to make us take turn for this, it could be a good thing. For example my character is far from being a sharp shooter, giving him the flamer (with no need to aim), and a bolter to Achilles (who is certainly a better marksman with it) would raise the squad's performances. Likewise, one of us could have a reputation as a tank killer and bear our melta or las-cannon when we take one.

Thats cool just thought I would ask. I mean the tactical Squad is the cream of the crop of a company. But thanks for the response.

Worry not Brother Flavius.
The weapons specialist will probably change after each mission. Sergeant Agrippa will have the option to chop and change marines in the tactical squad after each mission so everyone gets some experience with the assault weapon, the heavy weapon, being the vehicle specialist etc.

What an excellent idea
So something like this (I appreciate that Squads will chop and change as we expand between missions)?
Tactical Squad: Fireteam Charlie Brother Sergeant: Manius Agrippa Battle Brother/Weapons Specialist (Plasma): Demoades Achilles Battle Brother/Designated Marksman: Marcus Camillus Battle Brother/Weapons Specialist (Flamer): Roland Muleto Battle Brother/Weapons Specialist (Melta): Jacen Cartern
Fireteam Delta Battle Brother/Weapons Specialist (Heavy Bolter):Kraytirous Shalluat Battle Brother/Vehicle Specialist: Diaclois Amores Battle Brother/Weapons Specialist (Missile Launcher): Guillford Flavius Battle Brother/Weapons Specialist (Multi Melta): NPC Battle Brother/Weapons Specialist (Las Cannon): NPC
So weapon loadout is dependent on the mission requirements and then the relevant Marine becomes the Special / heavy Weapon Specialist for that mission!
Also Is 'Vehicle Specialist' the same as Custodian or are Custodian's effectively 'outside' of the Company TOE and part of the Chapters Vehicle Pool TOE* and therefore Vehicle Specialist is the Marine who is the best 'driver' (possibly with a view to becoming a Custodian and later a Techmarine in the future?)

I saw VS as being more like a designated driver. If the suad has to mount a vehicle in a hurry there's no confusion over who drivers. The designated driver just heads straight for the wheel without without the need for orders.
It'll be pretty much left up to the squad sergeant who he wants to fill which role in the squad. If he feels that one person is better suited to a heavy support role then he can keep that character as heavy support to maximize the squads effectiveness. The only unit I could see regularly sqapping positions for the sake of experiance would be the scout squads who have to train with every weapon.
With that in mind I would expect to see the each new squad we form shuffled round a bit to find who fits each position best and then stabalising with everyone in a set role.

Hate to be a pain, but PLEASE don't make me the Melta Gunner!!! I've had some bad expirences with them....so much melting.....
If anything i would rather be the squad's cc specialist, or just keep my bolter, and are tactical squads allowed to have lascannons and multi-meltas?

Just a comment about the vehicle specialist... As I undestand your point of view we drive our rhino when we have one... It implied that either we fight with nine marines or we left the transport immobile with no one to "guard" it during the fight ? Logic would say we have support crew in each company to drive our vehicles, or so I think.

I always suspected it was either automated or run by a servitor when the Tactical squad disembarked.

No, he's right, in most codex chapters they are driven by other marines (from the reserve companies if I remember right). Of course a vehicle specialist is still useful since you can always commandeer guard vehicles etc. Or maybe the driver gets shot.

I thought that there was always a permanent driver, like a servitor, that would just drive the marines into battle and then sit back or do something else....i don't know...

Nah, definately marines, in the old codex they listed the crew and it said marines there. There are other places where it mentions marines crewing the vehicles too.
Of course this doesn't mean the Omega Marines have to do it the same way, that's just the 'codex' way.

The Vehicle specialist preforms the role Julius outlined.
The Chapter's vehicles are driven by Marines not part of any specific company (vehicle pool) or part of the reserve companies.
The vehicle specialist is the Brother assigned to repair and operate any vehicle commandeered by the squad or replace the driver should he be killed.
In answer to the auto pilot function of vehicles this is partially true. But it does not use servitors. It has been known for many Centuries that machine spirits can independently operate the vehicles they inhabit. There are many cases of Land Raider machine spirits driving when the crew has been incapacitated or killed.

No worries Well keeping in mind that squads will probably change as we expand I was simply going to propose that I ask people what role they wanted and if there is no other takers for that role then it would be theres - if multiple people wanted a single role - we would discuss it further - after all this is supposed to be fun. Thought that we could probably add 'demolitions expert' (Again not someone who is better are blowing stuff up - simply when the squad is asked to rig some thing to go bang then the nominated Marine simply gets on with it). This could be for carrying extra grenades, 'C4 Demo Packs' (or what ever the equivilant is in the 41st Millenia?) - want to destroy that disabled tank as we with draw? - this individual is your Marine for the job.
